Case Study – Renewables Maintenance and Repair Projects
RDR has over the past 4 years gained experience in the maintenance and repair of wind turbines both on and offshore.
In February 2012 RDR supplied over 120 personnel to a high profile offshore project for Centrica Energy Renewable Limited on the Lynn and Inner Dowsing Wind Farm off the coast of Skegness, UK. This project involved full offshore installation works within the renewable Wind Farm industry with a range of mechanical resources. Personnel supplied by RDR ranged from a full management team and a complete multi-trade capability for over 6 months duration.
RDR trained and mobilised the full trade labour and project management team as well as provided a comprehensive and rigorous interview selection process with very specific criteria, prior to engagement of any personnel. This process enabled an effective and efficient build up and utilisation of resources.
All successful candidates were required to undertake a number of training courses prior to the transfer offshore. This included Offshore Survival, Working at Heights, Confined Space Working, First Aid and full medicals, which were all arranged by RDR using accredited training centres. All details and certificates of training were entered onto an offshore database to comply with the client’s statutory and company obligations.
Due to the close working relationship between RDR and our client we were successful in retaining all personnel for the duration and successful completion of the contract. This process enabled our client’s senior management team to concentrate on carrying out their own duties.
Following on from the success of the Lynn and Inner Dowsing project RDR has undertaken recruitment and training for a large Offshore Wind Turbine Maintenance project involving numerous trades, technical and management people and we have enhanced our discipline trades people, using comprehensive training events to develop them into qualified technicians.
“I was very happy with the performance of RDR throughout the Lynn and Inner Dowsing Offshore Project and the benefits this provided to Fabricom and the quality of the resourced labour. I have therefore recommended that we utilise RDR wherever possible on future projects both onshore and offshore within the renewables sector.”
